Day seven – two races with good wind. Jan Kurfeld (Germany) finally wins the regatta

26.08.2007

At day seven of the regatta the weather has decided to give gift to organizers and participants: the wind was up to 12 knots and they managed to carry out two planned races.

The main issue for this day was to overcome nervous stress: many leaders made global mistakes which could lead them to difficult position. Jan Kurfeld and Pietr Kulla managed to overcome that stress better than others, and that fact made them to be first and second overall. It was quite difficult day for Russian racer Sergey Komissarov because he was not such strong at such wind as German and Polish sportsmen. At the same time he was protested in both races of the day, and that made him nervous. Due to that Peter Kula passed him in overall rating. Byelorussian sportsman Ilya Strah had real chance to become third, but last race was also unlucky for him.

But nevertheless another Russian racer Alexey Selivanov has shown very good speed and results: he has won first race with feasible advantage. At the last race he was also in leaders fighting for first position almost through whole race, but by fortuity he has lost his position at that race: he was penalized and turned over during 720 degrees turn. So after that accident Michal Strusinski continued leadership of the race, while Jan Kurfeld came to second position. During the last upwind Jan Kurfeld managed to pass Michal Strusinski and to became first.

So after 9 races the regatta has been won by Jan Kurfeld (Germany), Peitr Kula (Poland) is second, and Sergey Komissarov (Russia)  is third.
