first two races have took place

20.08.2007

First race has started at good wind condition and direction. The wind has allowed to make long upwind and downwind courses. Wind was strong enough for hiking sometimes, but at the middle of the race it slowed down. Shift of the wind were not very global. So it was not required to correct distance during the races too much.

At the first race Pol 1 took good start and went left at the first upwind course. Left side at that time had advantage due to shift and stronger wind from the left. He has recieved very good advantage from the left and  managed to keep first position until the finish. GRB 99 was second for a half of the race, but finally he has lost this position to Rus 49.

At second race left side did not have so obvious advantage. The race committee had to give start two times due to tuff straggle at the start and a little bit slow wind.   Rus49 was penalized at the start, so he could not get good position at this race. BLR2 came first to first mark and kept this position almost until the end of the race. For two rings he was fighting with Rus7, who was 4-th at first mark and has shown very good tacking during the rest of the race. At the final downwind course Rus 7 has managed to be first, but just before the finish the wind has slowed down and another 3 sportsmen just behind them (Pol9, Pol17 and Ger771) have came forward.

The comments from Konstantin Lashuk, who is first by results of 1-st day, are: "First race was carried out at quite tuff wind conditions: the speed of wind was changing quite often and suddenly. The competition was making everybody to be very nervous since even some preponderance during the race did not guarantee you same result to the end of the race. Downwind course gave us much more of surprises than tacking upwind: sometimes wind was coming from backward and letting competitors behind of you to come very close to you. That made the competition very tuff.
Second race took place at more stable wind by speed, but with many unpredictable shifts. The main issue at that race was to be in time to switch yourself to correct side of distance. The downwind course gave same surprises as first race, so this day has made us to sweat and to be nervous a lot!"
